Why Our Beef Is The Best*
*it is possible we are biased.
In recent years the farming business at Clanville Manor Farm has begun moving over to a regenerative agricultural system. We are working towards a holistic way to minimise the reliance on external inputs, including fertilisers, chemical sprays and antibiotics, whilst improving carbon capture and soil fertility.
This centres on a grass based diet for all animals on the farm, including the long standing beef herd, and the introduction of pasture raised chickens. Our cattle are predominantly traditional native breeds, including Hereford and Aberdeen Angus, and they are reared slowly on their natural diet of grass and forage. They are looked after by Rob Snook, who is the fourth generation of his family to be farming here, and who has been working with cows since he was able to walk. His quiet and confident manner results in calm and happy cows.
The nutritional advantages of this kind of grass reared meat, and the eggs from our chickens, include less total fat, more healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, more conjugated linoleic acid (a type of fat that’s thought to reduce heart disease and cancer risks) and more antioxidant vitamins such as Vitamin E.
We believe this is the right way to rear animals, not only ethically and sustainably but also to produce the best taste. We know that our animals have led natural, happy lives and our meat and eggs are of the highest quality. There are also huge environmental benefits - moving the mob of cattle daily through our fields means we’re able to increase biodiversity, improve soil fertility and significantly reduce the waste-management issues which result from cattle who are permanently confined to sheds.
